TWO DAY TRAINING: Disaster Trauma (Field Traumatology Course)

In this training workshop emphasis is placed on stages of disaster working within the incident command system and the needs of survivors. Practical application and response is highlighted to provide each participant with the knowledge and skills necessary to lessen the negative impact on individuals and families in the aftermath of a natural or human caused disaster or critical incident.

(This is a required training for Beautiful Minds Project Trauma Team and to be eligible for deployment. Fulfills training requirement for the Green Cross Field Traumatologist and Clinical Traumatologist Certification)

This training emphasis is placed on stages of disaster working within the incident command system and the needs of survivors. Practical application and response is highlighted. Purpose is to provide each participant with the knowledge and skills necessary to lessen the negative impact on individuals and families in the aftermath of a natural or human caused disaster or critical incident.

This training fulfils partial requirements for the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology Certification Level 3 for Field Traumatologist Certification)

At the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the four phases of emergency management, the eight phases of disaster and key concepts of disaster mental health.
  2. Recognize and adhere to the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology’s Standards of Practice and Standards of Self-Care.
  3. List the causes of trauma and the trauma response.
  4. Recognize related symptoms of Trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and   Stress
  5. Recognize and Follow Incident Command System Chain of Command.
  6. Recognize and Follow Green Cross Deployment Protocols.
  7. Describe stress management and crisis intervention techniques, and apply techniques at the appropriate time.
  8. Conduct an initial trauma assessment.
  9. Describe the four waves of disaster assistance, and appropriate intervention methods for individuals and groups.
  10. Demonstrate the six steps of the Individual Defusing model.
  11. Demonstrate the appropriate methods for assessment, triage, stabilization and referral.
